We’re thrilled to announce that Howard Spector, co-founder and former CEO of SimplePractice, is joining Heard’s Board of Directors.
Howard brings decades of experience supporting mental health and wellness professionals. As the co-founder and former CEO of SimplePractice, Howard helped build the leading practice management software for behavioral health, trusted by over 200,000 practitioners. He also founded TrackYourHours.com, simplifying licensure management for clinicians.
With a Master’s in Counseling Psychology and years of hands-on experience in the mental health field, Howard uniquely bridges technology and innovation with a deep understanding of therapists’ needs.
“Heard is solving a critical problem for therapists: helping them succeed as business owners,” Howard said. “I’ve dedicated my career to supporting mental health professionals, and I’m thrilled to join Heard in building the next generation of tools they need.”
As a Board member, Howard will help Heard scale its mission: supporting every therapist entrepreneur to start, manage, and grow their practice—no matter their size, licensure, or experience.
Why this matters for therapists
Therapists today face growing challenges in running their businesses, from telehealth to cross-state licensure. Many are exceptional clinicians but lack the tools or resources to manage their financial health with confidence.
Heard is doubling down on its “therapist first” vision—developing tools that empower therapists to thrive, not just survive. With Howard’s expertise, we’re advancing our mission to create an ecosystem where therapists can focus on what matters most: their clients.
“Howard’s work has set the gold standard for therapist software,” said Andrew Riesen, co-founder and CEO of Heard. “His passion for amplifying therapists’ voices and his relentless focus on the details align with everything we’re building at Heard. Together, we’ll continue to transform how therapists manage and grow their practices.”
Looking ahead for Heard
This partnership isn’t just about technology—it’s about empowering the people who care for all of us. With Howard on board, Heard is making a significant leap forward in fueling our “therapist first” vision by building the financial infrastructure therapists need to succeed—crafted with input from the boardroom to the individual practice.
Our mission goes beyond simply addressing a need with technology. It’s about creating meaningful solutions with, for, and alongside therapists, ensuring they have the tools and support they need to thrive. Together, we’re building a future that empowers the people who care for all of us.
