Get answers to your most common insurance questions as a self-employed therapist.
How long does it take for therapists to get credentialed with insurance companies?
While the credentialing process usually takes months, Headway's credentialing team works directly with insurers to get your application approved as quickly as possible.
Regulatory guidelines vary by state and carrier, which causes timelines to vary—it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to 4 months to be approved.
How much do therapists earn from insurance?
It varies by license type and location. To get more specific info, submit the contact form here and they’ll reach out to you within 24 hours.
Can I see clients in multiple states using insurance?
Through Headway, you can get credentialed with insurance plans in all the states you’re licensed in.
Simply enter the primary state you practice in on this form and let your practice consultant know that you'd like to add additional states.
How often do therapists get paid from insurance companies?
You’ll get paid twice monthly, on the 15th and on the last day of a month.
Payment is processed via direct deposit, and we make it simple to see which sessions were covered in a payment.
Are therapists required to complete clinical documentation to bill insurance?
Yes. According to standards set by insurance companies, clinical documentation must be completed and signed within 72 hours of each session.
Missing the 72-hour deadline may result in delayed or declined payment.
